No. 001 · ALARM CLOCK

Online alarm clock — a bedside screen that wakes you up

  • 01 Dim bedside clock
  • 02 Sleep sounds until morning
  • 03 Alarm that builds up

Set the time you want to wake up and this page becomes a dim bedside clock. Choose a sleep sound to fall asleep to; at wake time the sound stops and an alarm rings, a little louder each time, until you tap I'm up.

Other wake screens —

A clock that does not light up the room

Once the alarm is set, the whole screen goes nearly black and the time is drawn in dim warm digits — readable when you open your eyes, but not bright enough to keep you awake. It covers the entire page, so nothing else on the screen glows or moves overnight.

§ 02

Many people sleep better with steady background sound.

Fall asleep to sound, wake to the alarm

Many people sleep better with steady background sound. Choose white, pink or brown noise or ocean waves; it plays all night at a low volume and stops when the alarm goes off, so the alarm is the only thing you hear in the morning.

An alarm that builds up

Instead of starting at full blast, the alarm rings quietly first and grows louder with each repeat. You wake to a gentler sound, and it still gets loud enough to get you up if you sleep through the first rings.

Procedure

Three moves to peak output

  1. 01

    Pick your wake-up time

Enter the time and, if you like, a sleep sound. Press Test alarm to check the volume.

  2. 02

Set the alarm and go fullscreen

The screen turns into a dim clock that shows the current time and how long until the alarm.

  3. 03

    Tap I'm up

The alarm repeats every few seconds, getting louder, for up to ten minutes or until you stop it.

Inquiries

Questions worth asking

Q.01 Can I use a different alarm sound?
The alarm clock uses a clear repeating beep. For a softer wake-up, try the sunrise alarm clock, which uses a gentle chime and a screen that slowly brightens.
Q.02 Will it work overnight?
Yes, as long as the page stays open. Plug the device in, keep this tab in front and turn off auto-lock (on iPhone: Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never). Browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API keep the screen on by themselves while the alarm is set.
Q.03 What sleep sounds are there?
White noise, pink noise, brown noise and ocean waves. They are generated by your browser rather than streamed, so they loop seamlessly and use no data. The sound starts when you set the alarm and stops at wake time — on the sunrise screen it fades out over a minute as the sunrise begins.
