No. 001 · 3 MINUTE TIMER

3 minute timer — a three-minute countdown with alarm

  • 01 Three minutes, one click
  • 02 Restart for the next round
  • 03 Alarm at zero

A three-minute countdown with large digits and an alarm at zero. Three minutes is a common steeping time for black tea, the length of a standard boxing round and a typical slot for short talks and pitches.

Other timers —

Tea and kitchen timing

Black tea is commonly steeped for three to five minutes, and many short kitchen jobs fall in the same range. Start the timer when the water goes on the leaves and the alarm tells you when to take them out, so the tea does not turn bitter while you are doing something else.

§ 02

Standard boxing rounds last three minutes, and many interval and skill drills borrow the same length.

Rounds and drills

Standard boxing rounds last three minutes, and many interval and skill drills borrow the same length. Use Restart between rounds, or set a one-minute timer in a second tab for the rest period.

Short talks and pitches

Three minutes is a common limit for lightning talks, thesis-in-three competitions and practice pitches. Put the countdown on a screen the speaker can see so they can pace themselves without checking a watch.

Inquiries

Questions worth asking

Q.01 Can I set 3 minutes 30 seconds instead?
Yes. Type 3 in Minutes and 30 in Seconds, then press Set.
Q.02 Why does the screen change color?
The timer is a light as well as a clock. It starts as cool 6500K daylight and warms through the color temperatures of a sunset — 4000K, 3000K, 2200K — to an ember red at zero, so you can tell roughly how much time is left from across a room without reading the digits. Turn off Color light for a plain dark timer.
Q.03 Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The countdown is calculated from the clock rather than counted tick by tick, so it finishes on time even when the browser slows down a background tab. The alarm plays when it ends, as long as the tab is still open and the sound toggle is on.
Q.04 Will my screen turn off while the timer runs?
On browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API (Chrome, Edge and recent Safari), the timer asks the device to keep the screen on while it runs, and releases that request when you pause or the countdown ends.
