No. 001 · 20 MINUTE TIMER

20 minute timer — a twenty-minute countdown with alarm

  • 01 Twenty minutes, one click
  • 02 Screen stays awake
  • 03 Alarm at zero

A twenty-minute countdown with large digits and an alarm at zero. Twenty minutes is a popular length for power naps, workouts, study blocks and many oven and stovetop recipes.

Power naps

Short naps of around 20 minutes are a common recommendation because they are long enough to feel rested but short enough to avoid waking up groggy from deep sleep. Start the timer, turn the volume up, and let the alarm end the nap for you.

§ 02

Twenty minutes fits a full short workout: a warm-up, a few sets and a cool-down.

Workouts and stretching

Twenty minutes fits a full short workout: a warm-up, a few sets and a cool-down. Put the countdown on a TV or laptop in fullscreen so you can see it from the floor or the mat.

Cooking

Many baking and simmering steps sit around twenty minutes. Leave the tab open on a phone or tablet in the kitchen and the alarm will call you back.

Inquiries

Questions worth asking

Q.01 Will the alarm work if my phone screen locks?
Browsers pause pages on a locked phone. The timer asks the screen to stay on while it runs, but keep the page open and the device unlocked to be sure the alarm plays.
Q.02 Why does the screen change color?
The timer is a light as well as a clock. It starts as cool 6500K daylight and warms through the color temperatures of a sunset — 4000K, 3000K, 2200K — to an ember red at zero, so you can tell roughly how much time is left from across a room without reading the digits. Turn off Color light for a plain dark timer.
Q.03 Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. The countdown is calculated from the clock rather than counted tick by tick, so it finishes on time even when the browser slows down a background tab. The alarm plays when it ends, as long as the tab is still open and the sound toggle is on.
Q.04 Will my screen turn off while the timer runs?
On browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API (Chrome, Edge and recent Safari), the timer asks the device to keep the screen on while it runs, and releases that request when you pause or the countdown ends.
