Q.01 What is a screen soft light?
A screen soft light is an online tool that turns your phone, tablet or laptop display into a broad front light for calls, selfies, makeup checks and small product shots.
Q.02 How do I use my screen as a light?
Choose the scene that matches your setup, raise brightness until shadows clear, then go fullscreen so the display acts like a larger light source.
Q.03 What is this online soft light best for?
It works best as quick fill light for webcam calls, front-facing photos, mirror detail, tabletop products and warm low-glare night use.
Q.04 Is it really free?
Yes. Screen Soft Light is completely free with no signup, download or subscription. It runs in your browser and is supported by advertising.
Q.05 Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The tool works on any device with a modern browser. Phones are great for close-range selfie light, tablets for video calls, and laptops or monitors for larger area coverage.
Q.06 How bright is a screen light compared to a ring light?
A screen produces less raw output than a dedicated ring light, but at arm's length it provides enough fill for clean webcam images and flattering selfies. For most video calls and social content, the difference is negligible.
Q.07 What color temperature should I use?
Match your room lighting. Warm rooms (incandescent bulbs) pair with 3000-3500K. Cool rooms (LED or fluorescent) pair with 5000-6500K. For a safe default, start around 4200K neutral.
Q.08 Will it drain my battery faster?
A bright screen does use more battery than a dim one. For short sessions like video calls or quick photos, the impact is minimal. For extended use, keep your device plugged in.
Q.09 Can I use it as a night light?
Yes. The night light and relax presets use low brightness and warm tones that are gentler on your eyes. They work well for bedside use, late-night reading and meditation.
Q.10 Does the camera preview record anything?
No. The optional camera preview runs entirely in your browser. The video feed is never recorded, stored or sent to any server. It is a local-only preview for checking your lighting setup.
